Can't we leave well enough alone?...

Good afternoon everyone.  As I am sitting here in Cleveland, TN on my jobsearch/vacation, I can't help but be upset at a claim from a so-called radio ministry that the world will end in a couple of days.

First off...last I checked, there are some words in red (with my emphasis added) that specifically say, "Now concerning that day and hour no one knows -- neither the angels in heaven, nor the Son -- except the Father only." (Matt 24:36, HCSB) That means these people are stupid if they think their Heavenly Hotline has access to when Jesus is to come back.  Obviously, it isn't the first time we've heard of people claiming they know of when the world ends.  Jesus even warned of them back in that time (read Matt 24 to get the full context).
S
Secondly...the fact that this is a radio organization that's touting this is really upsetting.  I know, there's this First Amendment thing, but it would make the non-Christian think that all Christian radio stations are completely "cuckoo for Cocoa Puffs".

Ok, I'm off my soapbox for now.  Don't know about the rest of you, but hopefully the ones who are saying that Saturday's the day we're outta here will wind up being in church the next day repenting for lying.  As for me, I'm not worried. I know in whom I believe!!!!

Happy Mother's Day...

I was thinking of this today as we are celebrating the one person who (should) love us regardless of what we've done and what we've become -- our mothers.  I say should because I've talked to and known people over the years that don't think as highly of their mothers as I do -- tearing their mother down verbally instead of saying nice things about them.

I am sure there are reasons behind that, and they are probably too numerous to mention. But I just can't imagine going through life having ought against the very one who brought me forth that many years ago.  As my mom mentioned in a note yesterday, you have to learn that you are human.  You're prone to make mistakes. (Human League moment there) And to apologize in this case would not be a sign of weakness.

For those whose mothers are no longer with us and are cheering us on from Heaven's Grandstands, I hope you took the time to remember and honor them today as well.

Again, Happy Mother's Day!

Road Trippin'...

Hello again, and welcome to another installment of Keil's Comments.

As the title suggests, I am going on a trip but not on our favorite rocket ship though (sorry, got the "Little Einsteins" theme in my head.  That's what happens when there is a 3 year old niece and an 8 month old nephew in your life).  Beginning next Sunday (5/15) through 5/26, I will be leaving on a little road trip via Greyhound to the Chattanooga/Cleveland, TN area.  It's an area I am familiar with, having been there two separate occasions (1991-92 and 1999-2000).  I am going there to look for work and to visit friends -- in that order.  It's something I've wanted to do for a while and now I have a chance to do it.

I realize that there might be some people that I associated with the last time I was in Cleveland that might still be there.  I'm not intentionally going to run into them (although the thought has crossed my mind), but if I do see them I will smile and be nice and say Hi to them while under my breath praying and gritting my teeth.  (Those that have known me long before Facebook and Twitter hopefully know exactly what I'm talking about).

My trip on the way there should be interesting given the recent weather situation that went through Arkansas and Tennessee.  I'm already scheduled to have two big layovers going -- one in Nashville and one in Chattanooga, and on the way back I have a big layover where I spend the morning in Little Rock. Prayers, pop and patience will be the order of the day during that time --again, in that order.  Ok, maybe patience before pop, but you get the idea.

Pray that everything will go smooth both going to and coming from that area, that favor and grace be to those I come into contact with and also for a great time all the way around.

If possible, I will give updates on Facebook and Twitter and possibly on here as well.  Until then, thanks and God bless.

Anything you say can and will be used against you...

Hello everyone.

The title of this comes from those infamous Miranda rights you hear someone say on "Law and Order" or any other cop show on TV, but it also applies to something that has been in the sports news the past couple of days.

In case you don't know the story...Carson Palmer, a quarterback for the Cincinnati Bengals reportedly told one of his "confidants" (note the quotation marks, explanation comes later) that he has enough money in the bank that he doesn't need to play football for the money and that he's been wanting to leave Cincinnati and "not step foot in Paul Brown Stadium again".

What does that so-called "confidant" do?  Instead of keeping it to himself, apparently he calls someone at a TV station in Cincinnati and tells them and next thing you know, it winds up on SportsCenter.

I usually joke about "anything you say can and will probably be the lead story on the 10pm news".  Not that I've had that happen personally, but for someone to pull something like that makes one question who is really trustworthy here.  The reason I put "confidant" in quotation marks...well it's simple, you're supposed to confide in that person in that whatever you say to them they would keep it to themselves.  And, as one person brought to my attention, same thing if a "confidant" tells you things from other people that were supposed to be kept "on the down-low".

I'm sure Carson is probably questioning whether or not he can trust that person again after this episode.  He'd probably cut ties with them altogether now, knowing that they can't keep their mouth shut and having his "dirty laundry" aired all over ESPN and NFL Network, especially with the current collective bargaining situation as it is.

OK, that ends another "Soapbox Session" for now.  I have some other thoughts stewing around, but I'll keep them for another day.
